Ukraine: Trump and Zelenskiy signal progress

U.S. President Donald Trump and Zelenskiy said talks had brought them “very close” to a peace agreement after meetings in Florida. Discussions focused on security guarantees, though disagreements remain over eastern Ukraine. Any final deal would require approval from Ukraine’s parliament and support from European allies.

United States/Venezuela: Tanker seizures spark backlash

Washington said it would retain Venezuelan oil tankers seized under sanctions enforcement operations. Caracas accused the U.S. of piracy and said it would raise the issue at the UN. Legal experts warned the move could further strain relations and test international law.

Thailand/Cambodia: Ceasefire brings fragile calm

Thailand and Cambodia agreed to a new ceasefire brokered by China, committing to troop withdrawals and joint monitoring along disputed border areas. Previous truces collapsed quickly, but the latest deal has allowed displaced civilians to begin returning home.

Russia: Senior general killed in Moscow blast

A car bomb in central Moscow killed Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, a senior logistics commander linked to Russia’s war effort. The attack, one of the most high-profile inside Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, has highlighted growing security concerns in the capital.

China/US: Sanctions imposed over Taiwan arms sales

China sanctioned 20 U.S. defence companies and several executives in response to new American arms sales to Taiwan. While largely symbolic, the move reflects persistent tensions over the island and adds strain to already fragile U.S.–China relations.
